Background

Background

The primary objective of all these projects was to improve the overall performance of the ‘Haven en Loodswezen’ (the port authority on the island) and ensure continuity and safety. Bonaire is both a commercial port and a popular cruise destination, which means unique challenges must be met. This required some fundamental adjustments, including updating the Port Regulations, to provide the harbour master with a clear mandate to perform tasks.

Services

Services

Port of Amsterdam International has been active on Bonaire with multiple projects since 2014. These three interconnected projects focused on four areas: commercial professionalization of the ‘Haven en Loodswezen’, professionalisation of nautical management, emergency repairs of quays, and a feasibility study for the relocation of the cargo port.  These projects were concluded in 2017, but we are now enlisted as the contracting entity, on behalf of ‘Rijkswaterstaat’, for the emergency repair works.

Amongst the services provided were the following:

  • Supervision of market consultation for the emergency repairs
  • Review of current nautical management procedures
  • Composition of updated Port Regulations and other related documents
  • Assessment of commercial opportunities
  • Definition of road map for organisational reform
  • Feasibility study for relocation cargo part, including business case
