Aruba Ports Authority (APA) and Port of Amsterdam International started a multi-year collaboration agreement in 2016. The focus of this agreement is the joint execution of the commercial strategy and vision of APA, the transformation of a large port terrain in Oranjestad to a multifunctional area and strengthening each other’s international ambitions.
One of the most important parts of this project is the transformation of an old container port into a multi-functional area, including the cruise terminal. A major aspect of this is the combination of port, retail, leisure and business spaces. Further, it aims to bring tourists and local Arubans together, complementing the surrounding city and beaches.
The multi-year collaboration agreement was preceded by an assessment by Port of Amsterdam International of APA’s current organisation and the market opportunities. Under this agreement, an employee of Port of Amsterdam International will strengthen the board of APA as Chief Commercial Officer. His main responsibility will be to contribute to the realisation of the jointly created Vision 2030. He is supported by a multidisciplinary team in Amsterdam. The project is currently ongoing.
Amongst the services provided were the following:
- Joint definition of Vision 2030
- Management of refinancing process
- Project management and concept development for area transformation
- Day to day management through CCO
